ஜோஸே ஸரமாகோ (1922 – 2010) ஜோஸே ஸரமாகோ போர்ச்சுகல் நாட்டில் பிறந்தவர். நாடகம், கவிதை, சிறுகதை, கட்டுரை, நாவல் என்று அவருடைய படைப்புகள் விரிகின்றன. இவை இருபதுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட மொழிகளில் மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டு, அவரை அதிகமான தாக்கத்தை உண்டாக்கிய போர்த்துகீசிய எழுத்தாளராக ஆக்கின. 1988இல் வெளியான அவரது ‘பல்தஸாரும் ப்ளிமுண்டாவும்’ (Baltasar & Blimunda) ஆங்கிலம் பேசும் மக்களின் கவனத்துக்கு அவரை முதலில் கொண்டுவந்தது. அடுத்த நாவலான ‘ரிகார்டோ ரீஸ் மறைந்த ஆண்டு’ (The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis) ‘இண்டிபெண்டெண்ட்’ (Independent)டின் அயல்மொழிப் புனைவு விருதைப் பெற்றுத்தந்தது. ‘யேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் சுவிசேஷம்’ (The Gospel According to Jesus Christ), ‘லிஸ்பன் முற்றுகையின் வரலாறு’ (The History of the Seige of Lisbon), ‘அந்தகம்’ (Blindness) போன்ற அவரது நாவல்களும், ‘அனைத்துப் பெயர்கள்’ (All the Names) என்ற நூலும் அவருக்கு உலகம் தழுவிய அளவில் புதிய வாசகர்களைப் பெற்றுத்தந்தன. ஸரமாகோ 1998இல் இலக்கியத்துக்கான நோபல் பரிசைப் பெற்றார்.
